There are so many lists for 2008 I hesitated to create one, but list are a good way to present a lot of information in simplistic manner, so I decided to make two lists. The first are my top 5 factors That effected internet marketing in 2007 and the second are my top 5 factors to consider for in 2008.
Top 5 Factors That Effective Internet Marketing in 2007
1- The continuing dropping open rates for email:
This has been happening slowly for 4 or 5 years, but in 2007 the percentages seemed to drop more rapidly.
2- General Social Network Web Sites:
2007 saw more interest from businesses in marketing through sites such as MySpace, Facebook and Linkedin.
3- Over Saturation of Marketing Communications:
This has been a problem for years and 2007 saw it escalate. Many marketers still have not learned that it is relevant information that maters most not the quantity of attempted contacts.
4- The Internet as Entertainment:
While the Internet has always included entertainment sites, 2007 saw an increase in the time people spend online. In fact, for the first time younger consumers are spending more time on the Internet than they are watching television.
5- iPhone:
The iPhone is changing the way people access the internet and email.
Top 5 Factors to Consider in 2008
1- iPhone:
The iPhone and some of their competitors are changing the way people access email and the Internet. How will this affect web designs and sending email blasts? I am working on this one.
2- Niche Social Networks:
Most people will start to limit the number of social networks they use. They may maintain a MySpace or Facebook but most will not keep both active. They will however (and have been doing so) join niche social networks where they can meet people who share their hobbies, specific interest and business interests.
3- Internet Entertainment:
As the Internet continues to draw larger audiences for longer times it makes sense for marketers to search out and advertise on, sponsor or even create web sites that provide relevant information or that entertains visitors.
4- Multiple Touch Points:
As email, the darling of internet marketing, continues to produce less and less results marketers must spread their message using a variety of tools. These new tools could include MySpace or Linkedin, Youtube or Flickr, sponsored social networks, and blogs.
5- Blogging:
Blogging deserves its own status on this list. There isn’t a better tool than a blog to present a concept and get instant input for clients, fellow employees or complete strangers. Search engines also like blogs as they change often and generally present information that is more relevant.
So there you have it. This is just my opinion. Get the facts for your self.
