Change Management
This morning there was a great question on Linkedin (www.linkedin.com) about change. I thought I would share the question and my answer.
This morning there was a great question on Linkedin (www.linkedin.com) about change. I thought I would share the question and my answer.

Question:

“How practical is the usage of emotional appeal in communicating change to employees?
As a part of change management process. Emotional appeal is said to be a part of communication where in we use pictures, slogans, ceremonics, humor (carefully), use change agents who have group appeal etc to get through to the employees. Generally, it is said that the rational component (analytics, details, charts etc) is highly used.

My Answer:
In my experience, I have found that an honest approach is the best. If you have established a motivated workforce in the first place the honest approach will be appreciated. I have experienced this first hand and have seen the great results it has achieved.
I have also seen the opposite when in the 1980's many of my clients were very large companies going through breakups and mergers, downsizing (ha what a buzzword that was) and other changes. Most just held back any solid information and that caused incredible concern in the employee base.

Honesty is the best policy if you want people to get behind the change.
